On a ten-percent increase year, there’s something about the sound of the landlord’s children’s children. Unmistakable, unremarkakle little hab mouths set to receive millions if the children don’t piss it away. The sound of the children who are still children, something about it sets you off across from me. You look like you might want them fenced off, the lot of them in. Something princely about their basic kicks. You don’t need any encouragement, but somehow I imagine a fourth brick wall finishing off their garden, a fifth tamped way down like a lid, the squeals three stories down and muffled without a real exit. The one prince is eating dirt now and no one needs to stop him. What if they all ate dirt. And we never thought about them again.
